Beverley Smith’s presentation will be on “The Balancing Act.”  She will detail particular advances women in aviation have made for women’s rights. She will examine the definition of caregiving, look briefly at the history of valuing the care role, and will suggest practical and legislative next steps required to ensure women in aviation have a wide range of options for the career-family balance.

Beverley Smith is a Canadian activist for women’s and children’s rights. She has lobbied government for 40 years to recognize the care role as vital to the economy, along with valuing paid roles. She has been a school teacher at all levels K-12 and is a mother of four and grandmother of seven. Smith has received numerous awards for her activism, has headed a national charity, made presentations to MPs, government committees in Canada and to UN delegates and non-delegates in New York City. She networks with women’s groups around the world and edits an international newsletter on caregiving.
