Aviation Needs Women
Aviation is one of Canada’s fastest growing industries, and yet very few women seek out careers in this industry; why? There is a 3-day conference on women in aviation in Canada taking place this June in Calgary, which aims to answer that question. As well, the speakers have been chosen for their real-life aviation leadership experiences and to provide support and inspiration to people and companies that attend. The goal is to encourage and facilitate an increase in the aviation industry by a demographic that represents over half our country’s population.
It’s surprising that only 5% of the 13,000 airline pilots in Canada are women, and while women comprise 15% of Canadian Air Traffic controllers and almost 19% of Royal Canadian Air Force regular and reserve members, that means a large segment of the Canadian population is missing out on a career in this exciting and rewarding industry. Further, the aviation industry needs women; more diverse teams with varied backgrounds provide better problem solving and outperform teams that lack diversity. Speakers at the conference come from all aspects in the field of aviation, including accident investigation, airlines, military, as well as authors, explorers and adventurers.
“This is the single best Canadian conference for women launching and furthering their aviation careers”, said Marcia Strang, past recipient of the Northern Lights Award in Canadian Aviation.
Those attending can expect professional speakers who will speak on cutting-edge trends in aviation technology, industry leadership, career advancement, excelling at your goals, and more.
