MWO Laurie Moore

moore MWOMWO Laurie Moore was born in Rosthern, SK and began her military career as a Traffic Technician in 1990.  Upon completion of Basic Training in CFB Cornwallis, NS, she was sent to CFLS St. Jean for an 11 month French course.  In 1992, she was posted to CFB Shilo where she supported base personnel, 1 (& 3) RCHA, and the German military forces.  Some of the biggest challenges faced during her posting was conducting a rail move from Shilo to Wainwright for RV ‘92 (in which she also took part as a member of the Air Det), and deploying the Regiment to Cyprus in 1994.  In 1997, she was posted to 1 Air Movements Squadron in Winnipeg, MB as part of MAMS (Mobile Air Movements Section).  This proved to be a very busy posting as she was frequently sent on short taskings all over the world including five Box Tops.  While employed as a member of 8 MAMS, she went to Australia, East Timor, Thule, San Diego, Bosnia, Croatia, Alert, Comox, Valcartier and many more locations.  In 1999, she was part of Task Force Aviano, Italy; also known as the “Balkan Rats”.  She spent four months supporting the CF-18 Sqns in their mission over Former Yugoslavia.

In 2002, she was selected to attend C130 Loadmaster Training at 8 Wing Trenton.  She finished top of her class and was subsequently posted to 436 (T) Sqn as a MCpl.  In the following five years she completed five 56 day rotos in support of OP Archer, OP Athena and OP Apollo.  Some of the qualifications earned while with 436 (T) Sqn included, BSERE, ASERE, BTAT (top student), ATAT, Flight Instructor and promoted to Sgt in 2006.

In 2006, she was one of ten Loadmaster candidates selected for the initial cadre for the newly acquired CC177 Globemaster.  She went to Altus AFB, OK in Mar 2007 for her Loadmaster Initial Qualification and was subsequently sent to McCord AFB, Washington where she flew as restricted flight crew with the USAF to gain valuable knowledge and experience.  This took her to many new places such as Bagram, Afghanistan and introduced her to a whole new set of rules and ways of doing things.  All positive of course!  In Oct 2007, she was posted to 429 (T) Sqn where she was in charge of the Readiness cell.  She concluded her tour with 429 (T) Sqn with a 56 day roto in 2009.  During this time, she surpassed 2000 total flying hours, flew with the Prime Minister (PM) for a second time and was given the honour of presenting the PM with the 429 (T) Sqn coin.

In the summer of 2009, her expertise was requested by 2 Air Mov Sqn.  This was a good career move as she went from supervising three personnel to 25 and then to over 50 upon her promotion to WO in 2010.  She has deployed on OP Nanook, OP Rimpac, TLD Cyprus, and the 70th Anniversary of Normandy since joining the Sqn.  She held the position of Standards WO at 2 Air Mov Sqn for two years.

In 2014, WO Moore was posted to Director General Transportation in Ottawa as the Compliance and Policy WO.  This position oversaw the compliance of all materiel movement within the CAF, domestic and abroad.  She participated in numerous trade Quality Standards Boards as well as the implementation or review/rewrite of various policies regarding the movement of materiel and passengers.

WO Moore was selected as a Subject Matter Expert for the Traffic Technician Occupational Study ongoing at Director General Personnel Requirements in Ottawa.  She was promoted to MWO in Jan 2016.
